The members of the CATS staff have since 1981 been involved in a large variety of nonlinear physics activities. These include conferences, workshops, graduate education and courses, schools, contributions to television and radio programs, newspaper articles and colloquia to broader audiences. In 1993 members of the CATS staff have organized following schools, workshops and conferences:
Complex Systems: Turbulence, Chaos, Neural Networks EU-Nordic Summer School, Humlebæk, Denmark, August 21-28, 1993. 0.01truecm
The aim of the school was to introduce graduate students and post-doctoral fellows into recent advances in physics of complex systems: chaos in low dimensional classical and quantum systems, turbulence in flows, neural networks, self-organized critical phenomena, fractals in oil research, interface growth. 75 students took part.
Lecturers: J. Feder (Oslo), P. Bak (Brookhaven), D. Rand (Warwick), A. Libchaber (Princeton), G. Grinstein (IBM), P. Cvitanovi'c (CATS), S. Solla (AT& and CONNECT), J. Hertz (Nordita), I. Procaccia (Weizmann), T. Bohr (CATS) and J. Krug (Jülich).
1st Copenhagen Symp. on Computer Simulation in Biology, Ecology and Medicine, Copenhagen, 23-25 Aug. 1993 0.01truecm
This symposium was the first in a series of meetings in which biologists, ecologists, and clinically orientated doctors can meet and exchange ideas with mathematicians, physicists and computer scientists in order to develop a more satisfactory description of the living world.
Invited lecturers: H. Meinhardt (Tübingen), N.-H. Holstein-Rathlow (Copenhagen), H. Herzel (Berlin), M. Marik (Prague), P. Borckmans (Brussels), and O.G. Mouritzen (Lyngby)
