Courses

The CATS groups have initiated a program of formal Ph.D. courses in various aspects of nonlinear science, as well as a series of short graduate/research level courses:

-----------------------------------------------
Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos, CATS/DTU, autumn of 1994
10 participating students

-----------------------------------------------
Nonlinear and Chaotic Fields, CATS/NBI and CATS/HCØ-KI, autumn of 1994

-----------------------------------------------
Mini Course on Spectral Fluctuations and Quantum Chaos
Thomas Guhr, NBI
23 Feb., 2 Mar., 15 Mar., 22 Mar. and 29 Mar. 1994.

Course on spectral fluctuations, quantum chaos and the basics of random matrix theory, related to the recently started experimental activities of measuring sound wave spectra in Aluminum and Crystals at the NBI.

-----------------------------------------------
Short course on multifractals
Center for Chaos and Turbulence Studies and Department of Geophysics:
Shaun Lovejoy
(Lab. de Météorologie Dynamique, Paris and McGill University, Montreal):
7 and 8 Nov., 1994 at Dept. of Geophysics, Haraldsgade 6: course for masters and Ph.D. students in geophysics and physics.

Fundamentals of multifractals: dimensions, codimensions, codimension formalism. Multifractal estimation techniques: PDMS, DTM. Numerical simulations. Generalized scale invariance. Advanced multifractals: singular statistics, multifractal phase transitions, self-organized criticality and Lie cascades.
