Sydney - Blue Mountains
A family weekend trip to Katoomba

There's an expression in Australia that's called 'Go Bush,' which means to get out of the city and relax. I try and 'go bush' to places where there's no cell reception.
But, I don't get to do that often, so for the most part, it's just a state of mind.

For Christmas we had given Karen a trip to Blue Mountains, and on the way to Katoomba we visited Featherdale wildlife park, which focuses on Australian animals. Storm and Astrid were quite fascinated (and frankly so were we), walking around cassowaries and koala bears. There was also a large collection of snakes, one of which Astrid managed to charm, but the wildest beast of them all was their saltwater crocodile (called Ngukurr), with a length of about 5 meters.

Our house in Katoomba was great, and reminded one of a hut in the Swedish forests. It had a lovely deck extending into a garden, where especially Stom played football. Friday night we followed tradition from home, and went for pizza in Katoomba. When we were not out by the falls or playing in the garden we relaxed in the house either reading or playing games.

The house was walking distance to Katoomba Falls (230m), and so we often went down to see the fantastic view and explore this escarpment of the Great Dividing Range. One could also see the famous "Three Sisters" mountains or just relax and contemplate Australia's beauty. Tina went for her usual stroll there, while Karen, Lars Erik, and Troels did a trip along the edge over to the other side of the Katoomba Falls.

On the way back to our new home in Dee Why, we visited Darryl and Clare again, this time for Darryl's famous chilly crabs. The kids had tons of fun in the pool and with the daughter Natasha's dog, Jessie, but when it came to the crabs, Storm was less hungry than normally! It was great to see Natasha again, and she quickly bonded with Astrid, whom she found adorable (we agree). And in the evening we drove to our new home in Dee Why.
