Sydney - Dee Why
Top of the hill - close to the beach

This is really a wonderful Colony; ancient Rome, in her Imperial grandeur, would not have been ashamed of such an offspring.
[Letter from Charles Darwin, 1836]

Our new home in Dee Why sits at the top of a hill right next to Dee Why beach, which we actually overlook from the balcony - what a treat. And we even had a swimming pool with windows on the side, to Storm and Astrid's great delight. Nevertheless, the week was actually mostly a beach week, though Karen and Lars Erik also did several trips to the center of Sydney. Lars Erik left for the South Pacific Friday, and during the weekend Karen took care of the kids both for brunch and dinner, giving Tina and Troels a chance to sample the lively Dee Why cafe and restaurant scene.

Darryl and Clare took all of us for a trip with Jessie to Bayview Dog Park and the more northern Bilgola Beach, for the kids to play with Jessie and for all of us to get around a bit and spend some time together. Bilgola Beach was particularly beautiful, and the sun was in its most shinning mood. A great day out, and we all slept well that night (probably also Jessie). Sunday we visited Darryl and Clare, both to see them, but also to see Trine (Troels' sister), who had just arrived.

And finally, Monday morning we moved out of Dee Why, so everything was packed down (again). Before Karen was leaving, we went to the small, sheltered, and pittoresque Shelly Beach, ending with a great lunch of fish and chips at the Boat House restaurant there. We then dropped Karen off at the Manly Ferry, and kissed goodbye after two fantastic weeks together.

Before moving into our last Sydney residence back in Freshwater (but a different place this time), we drove out to the North head, and were pleasantly surprised by the extraordinary view over Port Jackson and the Sydney skyline in the back.
