Skardu

Skardu is the name of a small town in Pakistan on the left bank of River Indus. It is the capital of Balistan, and the gateway to some of the highest peaks on earth.
Apart from this, Skardu is also the name of a 41 foot OceanLord from 1978, purchased in England in 2004 by Mark Bruno and Quintin Hinxman. When visiting the town Skardu in the mid 90's, they desided to go sailing together one day, and a decade later they fulfilled their dream.
They refitted the ship for going around the World, and while waiting for the ocean to cool down and the steady trade winds to start, I've had the pleasure of cruizing with them for a month in the Mediterranean.
Though first having planned a trip around the North Atlantic, they eventually decided to head West "forever" through the Panama canal and into the Pacific. You can see the adventures on their excellent webpage.
Having returned to England in the beginning of 2006, Skardu has now passed on to Tristan Hinxman, the younger brother of Quintin, and this gives all of us hope to relive those happy days of sailing onboard Skardu.
