Basic Interdisciplinary Course in Philosophy of Science (1)

The course is designed for students who has not taken the Ha(Dat) course in Philosophy of Science and IT as well as the CMD course in Philosophy of Science and Method, or for those who wants freshen up their knowledge in this area.
Work expected
Thus students are expected to have read these and constructed answers to contribute actively to the discussion. Further each student will make a Power Point presentation of the problem formulation and choice of methods in his/hers project as well as what kind of result and type of knowledge he/she expect to obtain this way. All are expected to listen and contribute with constructive critique.
Method
There are six parts and each have some study question and a case study. The course will provide summary lectures, but mainly concentrate on the cases and discussion of questions.
Schedule
In the morning there will be either introduction of the course or questions and discussion of the knowledge covered the day before. Every day there will be a talk from a researcher and/or practitioner. The course runs from 9-17.
Duration: 3 1/2 day. Starting late Monday 10 o'clock and stopping early Thursday at 3 o'clock. The course will take place in week 18, 30 April - 3 May 2007.

The course is designed for students who has a basic course in philosophy of science in their Masters and now needs some further knowledge in Philosophy of the many paradigms in Social Science in order to choose a proper research program for their PhD. project before they go deep into methodology in order to choose the most proper methods for the kind of knowledge they want to obtain.

Course content
Target group: The course is designed for students who has a basic course in philosophy of science with some depth and breadth in the social sciences in their Masters or a PhD-course and now needs some further knowledge in the methodological problems of qualitative methods of the Social Science in order to be able to reflect analytical over what kinds of methods would constitute a proper research program for their PhD-project in order to choose the most proper methods for the kind of knowledge they want to obtain.
Method: The course will provide summary lectures, but mainly concentrate on the discussion of the students reflective choice of methods and knowledge types in their projects.
Work expected: Thus students are expected to have read the text and constructed answers to contribute actively to the discussion. Further each student will make a Power Point presentation of the problem formulation and choice of methods in his/hers project as well as what kind of result and type of knowledge he/she expect to obtain this way related to the books reflection on knowledge types and methodology. All are expected to listen and contribute with constructive critique. Students are then on the last day to give a very short presentation of the improvements they have made in their methodological choices of methods in relation to the problems they have formulated and how they want to solve them by research.
